Happy Birthday to my sister!

Happy Birthday to my sister!

I remember going to school, crossing Hryniuk’s, Schur’s, Temrek’s
farms and the railway track and then we crossed the river during low water, the bush on Mills’ farm and then finally we got to the school. When you passed to Grade 5, you went to the school in
downtown Endeavour. In 1946 they built a three room school in town.

We had a small shack on the prairie by the spring that we had a cream separator in. Dad bought a lot in town and moved that shack in town and built an addition to it. And all us kids went to school there, you, Adeline, Sylvia and me (and Martin when it was too cold for him to walk back to the farm).

The Endeavour school unit had 10 schools and every year we had a school track meet. The top athletes went to Sturgis for the finals. We had to ride in the back of a grain truck (no seatbelts)! You were a really good athlete and won lots of ribbons.

I remember one time when you froze your legs. On the way home from school you had to stop at Baba Lutsick’s house for first aid.

I also remember having to go to Joe Yurkiw’s place to get the water as we didn’t have a well at the shack. Dad would bring in a load of wood and we had to cut it with a swede-saw, to help keep us out of trouble so we didn’t have time to go downtown. And you had to cook for all of us.

We want to wish you a happy 90th birthday. We hope that you have a wonderful day and may God bless you with many more birthdays.
